Unwind in Rennes: a spa beneath a stone vault, in the former Hôtel de la Monnaie
Rennes, the capital of Brittany, is best explored on foot, between the half-timbered houses of the old town and the Place des Lices, home every Saturday morning to one of the largest markets in France. In the heart of the city, on Place de la Trinité, the former Hôtel de la Monnaie now houses Mama Shelter, a 4-star hotel that opens its spa to guests who are not staying there.
Spa Mama Skin lies in the basement, beneath a stone vault, in a setting inspired by Jules Verne's Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Guests come for the Mama massages and for Seasonly facials, a French clean and vegan skincare brand. On the ground floor, an indoor pool heated to 29°C, a sauna, a hammam and a hot tub round off the visit: access can be added to your treatment: 90 minutes for €40 per person.
Massages last from 45 to 90 minutes: the bespoke Mama Body Massage starts at €105 for 45 minutes, and Mama Relax, Mama Deep, Mama Reboost or Mama Breath cost €130 for an hour. Mothers-to-be have their own massage, the Mama to Be, 60 minutes for €130. For the face, Seasonly facials range from €75 (Glow Booster, 30 minutes) to €190 (Tensiolift, 75 minutes). The four rituals range from €200 to €280, and every treatment can be booked alone or for two.
Relax, a wellness expert since 2005, lets you book online without staying at the hotel. The spa welcomes you every day from 10am to 7pm. Sainte-Anne metro station (lines a and b) is a 5-minute walk away; the hotel has no car park, the nearest is Parking Les Lices.
